Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy/ Tongue Thrust

I was 18 years old and ready to get my braces off. My orthodontist
took off the power chain and we waited a month before taking off the
brackets.
However, during that month, my teeth started to move outward
with gaps re-forming between my teeth. I was diagnosed with tongue
thrust/improper resting position and was referred to Patricia McLoughlin.
We set up an appointment and within a few months my
breathing and tongue habits were completely changed.
Through simple exercises, reminders, and practice, we
were able to transform my habits. I am now breathing with my nose
and swallowing properly with my tongue.

My braces are off and my teeth have been stable since
completion of the program. I would highly recommend anyone
with orofacial problems to Patricia. She is easy to work with,
definitely knows what she is doing, and can help children and
adults.

Speech and Language Development

I am a mother of 2, one girl and one boy ages 3 and 2. Both of my
children have speech delay and one has Autism.  I have had to deal with many Doctors
and Therapists since my son was diagnosed with Autism early in 2012. Out of all
the professionals that I have had to deal with, Patricia stands out from the
rest.

When I first called her to inquire about services she took the time to
talk to me over the phone, answer all of my questions and she made me feel like
she was really listening to the concerns I had for my kids.
She even gave me some ideas and tips on how to work with my children
to encourage their speech before we had even met!

When you first meet her you can quickly tell that she loves what she does.
I feel so blessed to have found her. She works very well with my kids and
my kids truly enjoy her.  She includes me in on the sessions so that
I can learn how to work with my kids at home.

Patricia sees my children as people and not as a diagnosis or number.
When I bring my kids to see her for therapy I know that they are getting
the best because she truly has a passion for her job and the people she
helps.  Since we started therapy my kids have been growing in their speech
and language development.
It brings me such peace of mind to be able to communicate with them
knowing that they understand me and I them.

Patricia is excellent at what she does and I highly recommended her.

Thumb Sucking Success

My daughter, Emma, must have been sucking her thumb in my  womb.
As soon as she was old enough to find it again, it became her  pacifier.
Looking through old photos, there is rarely a photo where Emma
was not sucking her thumb.  Knowing that this could be detrimental
for her in so many ways, I sought the help and guidance of Trish McLoughlin.

Trish's office was warm and inviting and I felt that she was able to address my
concerns as well as relate to this talkative and resilient five-year-old!

Trish was gentle, sincere and incredibly professional as she explained to my
five-year-old daughter the various methods of either  reducing or completely
eradicating the behavior.

To Emma's credit, she told Trish, "Yes, I want to quit COLD TURKEY!"

In what seemed like a very  short time, and with the support of Trish,
Emma did, indeed, quit cold
turkey

Therapy for Stuttering

I noticed stuttering in my daughter when she was almost three years old.
I called Patricia McLoughlin to inquire about intervention.
She immediately made me feel comfortable and set up an appointment
to meet my daughter and me.

Ms. Trish introduced the Lidcombe Program on the first visit.
She gave me notes, information and she modeled how I could
start the program. What a relief!  I no longer felt helpless and
I was learning how to work with my daughter at home.

As we progressed through the program, I found that both
my daughter and I grew in our speech skills but she never
even realized that we were "working".

Within a few months, my little girl had normal fluency.
I now have the knowledge I need to help her should the
stuttering ever return.

The true beauty of the Lidcombe program is
that it puts the intervention in the hands of those that
spend the most time with the child.

I am very grateful to Patricia McLoughlin
and the Lidcombe Program.
